In today’s class, Dr. Kevin Burr discusses how ancient audiences would have understood the creation of the Garden of Eden as a temple for God to dwell (that is, “rest”). Eden would also have been viewed as a space from which God ruled the cosmos. What does this mean for humans, whom God created and gave authority to rule over in Genesis 1:27-28? And how does this relate to humans being created in God’s image and God forbidding humans to make idols?
