In 2006, the Windsor Park Church of Christ moved to the south side of Corpus Christi and became the Kings Crossing Church of Christ. God has blessed us richly in our time here. In December 2016, we were successful in paying off the mortgage on our existing building, and we had a great celebration with a ceremonial mortgage burning. That was one step, but we believe God still has big plans for our congregation.
In September 2016, having spent much time in prayer and in conversation with our members, the Shepherds laid out our VISION 2020. At the root of our vision are several core values. These are:
Above all: To help as many people as possible to find Christ and to grow in Christ.
- We want to be a church that stays focussed on Jesus. Doing all things in Christ and for Christ keeps us united on the right foundation. Colossians 1:17-18
- We want the diversity of households in our congregation to be valued and strengthened. We want to work as a family, where each person is encouraged to use their unique gifts in God’s service. John 13:34-35, I Corinthians 12:18-20
- We want to cultivate a mission mindset among our members.
Colossians 4:5-6, 2 Peter 3:9
- We want to build a foundation for the church of tomorrow.
Psalm 78:5-7, Hebrews 12:1
Building on these core values, we have prayerfully tried to imagine what these core values would look like in our congregation if we took them seriously. The results of our dreaming are the following goals we have prayerfully committed ourselves to over the next five years. They include:
- Doubling our attendance to 600 or more
- Thriving ministries for all ages, and especially for young people
- An increasingly relevant, dynamic worship experience
- Facilities to accommodate a growing church
We are calling this time of prayer and evaluation our Common Ground campaign. We want for God’s heart to be at work in us so that others can see his heart through the work of our hands. We are imagining new ways we can share in life together as Christians, and new ways to engage the community. We want a common ground where all of these relationships can be strengthened: our relationship with God, our relationship with each other, and our connection with the community.

Most recently, we have begun having candid conversations about our future ministries, and the facilities this vision would require. While we feel very blessed with our current building, in order for us to achieve our goals of ministries expanded and lives impacted, we believe it is time for us to consider the next phase of our facility needs. Beginning in January 2018, we are entering a time of deep prayer and conversation about how God might be preparing to work though each of us, and whether we as a congregation are ready to take the next step in adding more space for our young people, a better location for activities, and accommodations to allow us to grow our ministries.
Drawing from our conversations with various groups about our needs, we have had an architect do enough preliminary planning to give us the ability to budget and plan ourselves. We urge all of our members to be praying about this opportunity and about how God may be calling them to grow in his likeness of both service and generosity.
As we continue to pray, we are all asking God to show us:
“Lord, what do you want to do through me?”
We have teams formed to help work on several specific areas:
